This position is based out of our Indianapolis, Indiana facility.

Responsibilities of a Senior Lab Assistant include:

  • Responsible and accountable for successful completion of specific department duties set forth in the task list and/or department training checklist.

  • Perform QC and maintenance of equipment and ensure QC logs are audit ready

  • Responsible for working with and directing less experienced staff, and prioritizing/tracking workloads and/or special projects on a daily basis.

    • Reviews work of peers by performing QC checks on paperwork, equipment and processes.
  • Provides training for new employees to ensure completed as scheduled.

  • Independently coordinates the timely development and completion of training materials, and checklists. Seeks and promotes expertise in department and across sites to ensure consistent approach to training and regulatory requirements of lab.

  • Serves as a Histology expert in sample handling validation, acceptable and unacceptable criteria for samples

  • Serve as an expert in client specific project worksheet requirements.

  • Responds to problems or questions of department staff.

  • Reviews, revises, or helps writes laboratory SOPs. Consults supervisor on as-needed basis and keeps them informed of progress.

  • Independently introduces and develops improvement ideas and helps the group with the implementation.

  • Participates on teams and committees representing the lab assistant group.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Qualifications:

Required:

Associates degree in a business or science discipline

Preferred:

Bachelors degree in a business or science discipline

Experience:

Required:

  • 4 years experience in a similar position, or 3 years of Covance CLS experience in the laboratory.

  • Excellent customer service skills including attention to detail, accuracy, and effective communication skills.

  • Ability to identify professionally and communicate quickly via email, in meetings and by phone.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively adn troubleshoot issues until fully resolved

  • Be a resource to relate procedures for sample receipt, transfer and storage.

  • Must be able to use solid Independent judgment skills.

  • Must have excellent computer skills including MS Office software applications (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and fast data entry speeds

  • Must have work and show talent in working as part of a team
