Mid America Clinical Laboratories Molecular Technologist in Indianapolis, Indiana
ROLE OVERVIEW: In cooperation with the department supervisor the Molecular Technologist performs routine and special molecular laboratory assays of patient specimens. This consists of infectious diseases and some genetic disease testing. The molecular technologist follows established standards and policies, reviews patient results for accuracy and diagnostic correlation, uses independent decision making skills, and communicates with a variety of customers. The standard of ethical and professional performance must be consistent with established medical laboratory practice and demonstrate the philosophy of Mid America Clinical Laboratories in the performance of duties. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimal requirements must be met in order to fulfill the primary role responsibilities. Includes but limited to infectious disease testing. These requirements are reflected within the Experience Required and Skills Required sections as well as on the Physical Requirements and Environmental Hazards Worksheet. ASCP certification in Molecular Biology, Medical Technology, or other Laboratory Health related science preferred. BS/BA/ in Laboratory Sciences will be considered with experience. SKILLS REQUIRED: Working knowledge in molecular biology, including nucleic acid analytic methods. Clear written and oral communication; ability to work with others on the delivery of laboratory medicine. Knowledge of CAP/CLIA standards. Ability to communicate and instruct effectively, perform independent technical and ethical decisions, operate simple and high complexity instrumentation, perform simple and high complexity manual and automated procedures, organize to perform multiple tasks simultaneously for maximum efficiency. Respects the confidentiality of patient's laboratory test results. Two years molecular experience preferred.
