Organizes and manages the direct maintenance of medical devices, instruments, and systems in use throughout the hospital for patient care. The area of responsibility includes electronic and specialized medical equipment. Generally responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance on more complicated medical technology, e.g., imaging equipment, ultrasound machines, anesthesia machines, electrosurgical units, ventilators, and clinical laboratory equipment, than a Biomedical Technician I.
Minimum Education: Associates Degree (AS) in electronics from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Education: AS (or better) in Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET) from an accredited college or university.
Minimum Experience: Five years of experience in a healthcare facility or as a Field Service Engineer (FSE).
Preferred Experience: Six or more years of experience in a healthcare facility or as an FSE.
Certifications Required: CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) is required if no Associates Degree in electronics or BMET.
Certifications Preferred: CBET, CRES (Radiology equipment), or CLES (Lab equipment).
Physical Work Category: Medium = Exerting 25 to 50#’s of force occasionally and/or 12 to 25#’s of force frequently and/or 5 to 10#’s of force constantly to move objects.
