The Methodist Hospitals EMS INSTRUCTOR-SCHEDULE COORD in Gary, Indiana

Provides education and training in one or more of the following: Advanced Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PALS), American Heart, Basic Life Support (BLS), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic Program. Coordinates scheduling and equipment for contracted coverage locations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

  • Assumes responsibilities for the preparation, teaching, evaluation and supervision of student performance, as assigned in related classes or courses, efficiently and in a timely manner.

  • Operates A.V. equipment and utilizes related AV material effectively in classroom setting.

  • Maintains an accurate, current inventory of supplies and equipment for courses, and communicates deficiencies to appropriate service area personnel.

  • Identifies the needs of specific class agendas and encourages appropriate personnel to participate in the presentation of various segments of the course outline.

  • Performs follow-up evaluations on students trained in EMS educational programs in a timely manner.

  • Keeps accurate records of courses taught and evaluation of students' progress during course.

  • Completes and submits accurate instructor grade reports for each course and course evaluation with recommendation for changes in a very efficient and timely manner.

  • Assists and assesses applicant's needs in the preparation of application into training courses and for State Commission Institutional Certification and teaches classes for paramedics.

  • Prepares and coordinates schedules for staff assigned to the contracted locations.

  • Fills in as required to maintain continuous coverage.

  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide education appropriate to the infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.

  • Ability to assess and perform basic life support, advance cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to relate appropriately to patients, co-workers, clients, and public.

  • Follow directions and performs assignments in a prompt, efficient manner.

  • Ability to adapt to period of high service activity and stressful environment, as well as, periods of low activity.

EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university in healthcare, emergency medicine, or a closely related field is preferred.

  • Must maintain State certification as a Paramedic, including instructor status.

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required

  • Bachelors Healthcare Related Field Preferred

  • Certified Paramedic

  • Certified Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation

  • Certified Pediatric Advance Life Support
