The Defense Specialist Reviews Information, Indemnification and Repurchase Demand Letters and works with the proper agency to defend Freedom Mortgage against the allocations stated in the letter to “Cure” or rescind the initial request. This requires verbal and written communication with the Branch’s, Investors and Management if necessary. This position also works on Due Diligence Issues when audited by outside vendors.
Essential Job Functions:
Provides initial review of Conv/ FHA/VA Information letters, Indemnification Requests, Repurchase letters, Make Wholes, Uninsured loans, VAFF Refund requests.
This position is crossed trained to perform duties of the Defense Lead.
To work directly with all agency investors to work to cure issues of concern and provide clarification if necessary to management and the branches.
Determine the accurancy of the deficiency sited and determine if a cure can be provided to rescind any concerns.
Communicate with Management and branch on any issues that arise that cannot be cured. Work with Management on any further actions taken.
Assist Lead to monitor and work with Freedom Refinance Team on loans that can be refinanced and cannot be cured.
Assist in any recovery efforts with Correspondents and Brokers if necessary.
Work with VA, Veterans, Customer Service and Accounting on requesting VAFF Refunds.
Assist team reviewing EPD/FPD/AOI/Correspondent loans to determine Material concerns. Report any loans to Special Investigator.
Provides defense on Due Diligence issues when received by investors, warehouse lines, etc.

Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Minimum 6 years of experience in Mortgage Banking.
Experience must include, but not limited to, extensive knowledge in Mortgage Loan Processing, Underwriting, Closing, Post Closing, and routine compliance.
Must be able to perform all of the above functions, including calculating of assets, income, credit, eligibility for all programs, and property review.
Must have a strong working knowledge of all areas of Conv, FHA and VA Manuals, including internal and external guidelines, announcements, and Mortgagee Letters in today’s Mortgage Lending environment.
Proficiency in Word/Excel and Access DB required.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work with direct management.
Ability to adapt to and accept change easily
Must be able to work in an organized, independent, efficient, professional manner.
