JOB OBJECTIVE

To provide oversight and assistance within the career center and prepare Career Coach program clients to successfully enter the workforce or upgrade their employment. This position reports to the Director of Career and Business Engagement who reviews performance annually.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Greet customers as they enter the center and assist them in either getting started at the center or continuing with their current activities.

  2. For new customers, ensure they complete the new client paperwork and resume worksheet.

  3. Start a file for each new customer with the label stating both the name and customer number.

  4. Ensure all customers sign in when entering the center for statistical purposes

  5. Provide basic assessment of the need of each customer and assist him/her in locating the appropriate tools needed.

  6. Coaches participates regarding career development, including administering and interpreting career assessment tools.

  7. Keep accurate and current required statistics.

  8. Be knowledgeable of current labor market trends.

  9. Coordinate interviewing opportunities on-site and off-site for customers as applicable.

  10. Enroll eligible customers into the program via Social Solutions. Ensure all assessments, releases and paperwork are complete to open the individual's file.

  11. Meet individually with participants to determine skill level, industry experience, and education/training needs

  12. Guide participants through assessments and create an individualized career plan

  13. Assist with scheduling workshop attendance and enrollment into programs at partnering education/training institutions to enhance job readiness and employability

  14. Assist with developing resumes and cover letters, identify opportunities for employment and assist with the application and interview process

  15. Review and assess all background information concerning strengths, abilities, and vocational preferences, as well as needs and limitations

  16. With information given, and assessment of situation, be able to provide referrals to community-based agencies that can provide needs that are not obtainable at Goodwill.

  17. Serve as an advocate for the client to ensure that his/her needs and interest are the core of the program.

  18. Participate in inter- and intra-departmental meetings as scheduled.

SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree preferred in Social Services or related field. A minimum of 1 year of college and related work experience is required.

  2. Ability to motivate others and understand the needs of individuals with disadvantages and/or disabilities.

  3. Ability to handle competing demands and effectively prioritize responsibilities.

  4. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  5. Must be able to work with individuals at all levels of the organization and negotiate win-win solutions to conflicts.

  6. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  7. Ability to relate to individuals coming from a variety of economic and ethnic backgrounds, as well as cultural differences.

  8. Must be able to pass a drug screen.

  9. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

  10. Must have a valid driver's license and provide proof of automobile insurance.
