Columbus Regional Hospital - 7195 Lab Specimen Procurement Service - Full Time, Days, 36 Posted 2018-09-01 Req # 3938 ABOUT THE JOB Full-time; 36 hours/week; Day shift; 8a-5p Monday-Thursday; Half day on Friday.# #Every 5th Saturday rotation and two holidays/year.# Pay starts at $12.36 with additional compensation based on experience.# Clerical testing is required for this position.# SUMMARY The Outpatient Specialist (Phleb/USP) must have excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, lab staff, other hospital departments, physicians, and other laboratory customers. Responsibilities include patient registration, ordering laboratory tests (outpatient and client), answering the phones using a multi-line computerized system, directing phone calls to the appropriate department and/or person and for performing a variety of miscellaneous clerical duties. This staff is also responsible for the collection of all types of clinical laboratory specimens by performing routine and special phlebotomy procedures.## # ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Greets and assists outpatients, physicians, hospital staff, visitors and clients in a courteous manner. Registers all outpatients in the HIS system following protocol established by the outpatient registration department. Correctly places orders for laboratory test(s) in the computer system.## Uses computer systems in all functions required for both clerical and phlebotomy responsibilities. Properly identifies the patient, collects the correct specimen, collects an adequate quantity of specimen, and correctly labels the specimen(s). Accurately instruct patients of all ages regarding specimen collection (e.g., 24 hr urine collection, midstream urine collection, sputum and stool collections, etc.). Performs limited direct patient testing (such as Bedside glucose testing) without supervision. Performs neonatal testing when required (e.g., bilirubin, repeat newborn screen, etc.) following established procedures. Maintains files, records, requisitions and other pertinent information, so that customer#s needs can be met efficiently. #### # EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Equivalent to a high school education or General Education Degree (GED) required# One year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Medical terminology course; computer based knowledge, PC and keyboarding skills are desirable. # CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Indiana driver#s license required and must meet the hospital#s liability insurance carrier requirements. Phlebotomy orientation required within 6 months of hire.# PLB (ASCP) or equivalent certificate and/or registration is desirable. CPR required.
